Welcome!!
I'm a stay at home mom to a 3 year old boy and a 7 month old baby girl.
If you have a car and get out there are lots of great groups in Duncan to meet mom's in the area. Let me know if you're interested and I can send you information on the groups. _________________

At the Health Unit (margarat moss ) they have a toddler playgroup which is for kids 0-5 yrs. It is every friday 1pm to 2pm. you can call the health unit and ask for Rhoda Taylor she is the one who runs it.
it is a place to meet other parents to chat and they have guest speakers each week or almost every week that talk about different things to do with parenting and children. They have people like the community dental lady, sign language, car seat safety, the community nutritionist, infant development and many more. It is a free group.
There is Mother's Morning Out which is every Tuesday (during the school year) at the Duncan United Church 9:30am to 11am. It is a place for moms to meet for coffee to chat and they do have guest speakers. it is a drop in fee of $2 a week.
I am sure that Amberlori will post in here since she is one of the facilitators of it.
Other than that I can not think of anything else that would pertain to your childrens ages. I have kids that are 5 and 3 yrs old so I have been trying to find a playgroup or something for them to do but not much. I am sure that a bunch of us moms on here that have kids those ages could meet up somewhere or someplace for a playdate or something if that interests you?....
There are also several facebook.com groups that you can check out....
1 - Cowichan Valley Moms Swap 'n' Shop
2 - Ladysmith Moms Swap and Shop
3 - Nanaimo Moms Swap & Shop
4 - Duncan to Nanaimo Play-dates for Kids
5 - Cowichan Valley Mommies
Hope this info helps. I am sure that the other ladies on here might know of more too. |

Are you home schooling or does your 6 year old attend classes??
If she is in school, then the Strong Start programs would be great for your 3 year old. They run Monday-Friday from 9-12, are on a drop in basis and are totally free. It's a mom/kid play safe play area for children 0-5 to learn and play with their parents care givers.
There is one at Alexander School on Beverly Street in Duncan.
There is one at Khowhemun School up by the Hospital in Duncan
and There is one at Koksilah School down near the ICBC Inspection place on the highway.
If you are interested in any of those, let me know and I'll send directions etc. (I dont' have time right now, but we got to Alexander on wednesday and Koksilah on Fridays and they are great!)
And yes, I co-ordinate the mother's morning out group in Duncan at the Church (not church affiliated in case that is of concern to you). It's FABULOUS! There are volunteer Grandma's that watch the kids so you get some mommy me time and meet other moms, do crafts or have speakers. It really is a great group. You should check it out if you can. _________________

Alexander School Strong Start- Come south down the highway and turn left at your first lights into Duncan (The Thrifty's is on your right). This is Beverly Street. Follow this around the bed and past York Street. Alexander School is on your left (the second school, the first one is Quamichan Middle School).
Finding the Strong Start is a little tougher. You have to go "THROUGH" the breezeway and get in behind the school to a little building called the Alexander Family Resource Centre. Strong Start is the door on the right. There is usually a sandwich board sign outside the door. Go right in, Alexis will greet you and she recognizes everyone so she'll know you are new and introduce you to the program. Definitely check it out, it's a great program!! Runs 9-12 every day. There is a snack included, and story/song time. My 3 year old LOVES it. Has been going since he was about 18 months old and has called it "Play, Toy, Kids" since then.
The Mother's Morning Out Group meets at the Duncan United Church. Come south down the highway again and this time turn RIGHT at the first lights in town (At the Thrifty's). Then Turn left at your next lights (Canada Ave). Then turn right at your next lights (Ingram Street). The church is after the four way stop on your left. You can park on the street, but I would advise getting there around 9:30-9:45 to get parking because it gets very busy around there. As lbml said, there is a 2$ charge for it, but your first week is free to check it out. The $2 covers the cost of the coffee/tea, hall rental, cookies and juice for the kids, craft supplies and any speakers we have the charge a fee. I LOVE it as it gives me a break from my kids. We meet Tuesday's from 9:30-11. Come in the door off ingram and turn right into the main hall. I'm always there by 9:15, so I"ll probably be the first one you see. Hope to see you Tuesday (It's an open session, so a good one for you to meet some moms and have some chats!)
Hope that answers your questions. Feel free to email me or pm me with more questions. amberlori1@hotmail.com _________________
